It’s no secret that words games are a favourite of residents across our villages. They love a good challenge, a tough puzzle and the opportunity to really put their brainpower to work.

We encourage word games as a regular activity for seniors as they offer numerous benefits to participants, including improving thinking abilities, stimulating new learning, reducing the risk of dementia, and boosting self-esteem. There’s nothing like cracking a complex word puzzle to give you a confidence boost.

Residents in RFBI Berry Masonic Village have been really putting their thinking abilities to the test during regular one hour word challenges in which they are given a long word and challenged to create as many words as possible using the letters from it.

Previously the record was 173 words from antidisestablishmentarianism. During our lest challenge, however, the group found an amazing 246 words from psychoneuroendocrinological. Wow!

The intelligent bunch put our Leisure & Lifestyle Officers to work, who had to check some of the words were in fact real. Some cheeky residents do love to add in a made-up word or two, which is always great for a laugh.

Well done to all involved – we can’t wait to see what you achieve next.
