Recently the memory support unit at RFBI Concord Community Village was transformed into a vibrant studio of colour, laughter and deep connection. Residents gathered for a unique creative activity that proved that sometimes the simplest gestures carry the most profound meaning.

The task was simple but significant: each resident dipped their hand in bright red paint and pressed it firmly onto paper. At the centre of each resulting print sat a hand-drawn heart – a symbol of the love, life and individuality that defines every person in our care.

Every handprint tells a story. Looking at the finished works, you see a beautiful array of different shapes, sizes and textures. When displayed together, they form a shared tapestry that reflects the rich diversity of the Concord community.

Inside each heart, a name was carefully written. It served as a moving reminder that behind every hand is a life rich with experiences, decades of memories and enduring meaning.

For the residents, the joy was found in the process as much as the result. As they held up their painted hands for photos, their smiles reflected a sense of confidence and belonging.

In our memory support unit, we focus on more than just clinical needs; we focus on the soul. Moments like this remind us that creativity is a universal language that allows residents to express themselves, connect with their peers and be celebrated for exactly who they are.
