The healing touch from little chicks

Sonia Lim 6 Feb 2026

RFBI Glen Innes Masonic Village residents were recently treated to a visit from some very special, fluffy guests – some baby chickens.

One of our amazing village staff members brought in the group of newly hatched baby chickens, a delightful experience for all but particularly for residents living with visual impairments.

For those who cannot see the vibrant yellow of a chick or the way it scurries about, the experience becomes a powerful sensory journey of touch and sound.

Guided by our caring staff, residents were able to gently cradle the chicks, feeling the incredible softness of their downy feathers and the tiny, frantic heartbeat of a creature just a few days old. The tactile experience sparked immediate smiles and prompted residents to share stories of their own lives – many recalling childhoods spent on farms or tending to their own backyard coops.

These small moments are a vital part of our commitment to sensory therapy and emotional wellbeing. By bringing the outside world into the village in such a tangible way, we ensure that every resident is included in the joy of the day.
