Take a moment with Veda and Mick14 Feb 2022
We’ve interviewed many staff, volunteers and residents as part of our A Moment With… series, but never a couple. Today we are taking a moment with a very special couple who recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Veda and Mick are quite the couple. Having met at a local dance in their early twenties, the couple got married at Christ Church Mount Vincent on December 14, 1946 and made their home in Weston.
Having lived at RFBI Kurri Kurri Masonic Village over the last 5 years, they are happy to not only be able to live together in the Village but also with friends they have known their whole lives.
The pair say whilst their lives haven’t necessarily been easy, they have made so many happy memories, in particular having children and welcoming their grandchildren into the world. Mr and Mrs Wiseman have raised three sons, welcomed six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with another due in April.
Prior to retiring, Veda worked as a seamstress in a clothing factory and Mick was a paymaster for the mines. Together they created a love story that many of us aspire to have.
“We have lived a great life! It hasn’t always been easy, but we got through it together,” Veda and Mick said.
The pair have an amazing history in sport, having both won the singles championship for tennis, golf and bowls. Veda even found the time at night to study cake decorating and create cake sensations, whilst Mick loved dabbling with numbers.
We are so lucky to have Veda and Mick in our Kurri Kurri village and to have recently celebrated their 75th anniversary with them.
