Take A Moment With… Ron Webel

Clinical care is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to quality aged care. Emotional and spiritual support play a vital role in creating a homely and comforting environment for residents. That’s why volunteers like Ron Webel are so transformative to our village communities.

Ron visits our RFBI Glen Innes Masonic Village fortnightly, serving in two distinct but equally important roles: as a community visitor and as our Volunteer Aged Care Chaplain. For Ron, these visits aren’t a job or a chore – they are a profound privilege.

Ron understands that moving into aged care can sometimes lead to feelings of loneliness or a sense of not fitting in, especially for those without nearby family.

“I love to see the smiles on their faces when I walk into their room,” Ron says. “We talk about anything – farming, nursing and show jumping. Whatever they want to talk about. Sometimes they have things to show me that are important to them. I’ve learned that sometimes, listening is much more important than talking.”

By focusing on the person’s history and their stories of how life used to be, Ron helps residents maintain their sense of identity and value.

As a Volunteer Aged Care Chaplain, Ron provides a vital link for residents who can no longer attend their home churches. He offers 1:1 visits and small group discussions for those with a faith or those who simply have questions of a religious nature.

On the 4th Sunday of every month, Ron also leads a service in the beautiful Glenwood Chapel. It is an inclusive space where everyone is welcome, regardless of their background or religion.

Ron’s work is driven by a simple, beautiful belief: everyone matters and everyone is important. Whether he is joining in on a group activity or sitting in quiet, serious reflection with a resident in need, Ron brings a sense of joy and dignity to every room he enters.

Thank you Ron for the heart and supporting ear  you bring to RFBI Glen Innes Masonic Village. You are a reminder to us all of the power of a simple visit.
