Take A Moment With… Leonie
4 Apr 2026At RFBI Basin View Masonic Village, we often talk about the importance of family. For our long-term volunteer, Leonie, that connection is the very foundation of her 15-year journey with us.
Leonie first walked through our doors as a family member. After moving her mother from Melbourne to Basin View to ensure they were close to one another, and with her sister-in-law also residing at the facility, Leonie saw firsthand the impact of a dedicated care community.
What began as a personal connection soon blossomed into a formal volunteer role that has lasted over a decade and a half.
Leonie is the definition of ‘all hands on deck’. Every Monday and Tuesday morning – and whenever the Leisure & Lifestyle team needs an extra set of hands – Leonie is there. Her contributions are vast: she assists with on-site activities and our ever-popular bus outings, she serves as a valuable member on our Auxiliary team to support village initiates and she runs the fortnightly trolley service, bringing treats and essentials to the resident’s rooms.
While the tasks Leonie performs are vital to the smooth running of our village, her true impact lies in the relationships she has cultivated. Over 15 years she has formed deep and meaningful bonds with residents, their families and our staff members.
In an aged care environment, these social connections are a crucial aspect of resident wellbeing. A visit from Leonie with the kiosk trolley isn’t just a transaction; it’s a moment of recognition, a shared laugh and a feeling of being seen and valued.
Leonie’s commitment and passion reflect the very best of the RFBI spirit. To volunteer for 15 years requires a special kind of heart and we are privileged that Leonie chooses to call Basin View her second home.
Thank you Leonie for 15 years of smiles, service and stories. You are a true treasure to our community.
