A moment with Irene

Irene is a truly inspiring individual who lives in our RFBI Leeton Masonic Village. Her life has been far from easy, and yet she brings a real joy, humour and passion to our Leeton community that our staff and residents alike enjoy.

Irene was born in France and spent much of her childhood with her parents in the prisoner camps in Germany during WWII. Irene has travelled a lot and has now come to call Leeton in NSW, Australia home. As a result of her experiences, she can speak four languages fluently (French, English, German and Polish).

Irene worked in the Leeton Hospital, in first aid and in medical supply. In 1988, she took another exciting journey and created one of her happiest memories travelling to Poland and England.

“I love cooking, shopping, sewing, knitting and crochet. So amongst my favourite moments in my life are a cooking demonstration in Cootamundra and catering a radio interview in Wagga Wagga,” Irene said.

Irene said she enjoys living in the RFBI Leeton Masonic Village because the staff are caring and helpful, and the stories she’s heard from staff and residents make the community truly special.
