Take A Moment With… Frances

Sonia Lim 10 May 2024

Frances is one of the amazing volunteers who has dedicated years to supporting older Australians living in our RFBI Dubbo Masonic Village.

Frances has been an important part of our village since it very first opened, dedicating her time to assisting with mass, offering communion, praying with residents and simply being a listening ear when they feel like sharing.

A kind person at heart, Frances is regularly found beside residents learning their stories and brightening their days. She is passionate about supporting older Australians and their families and shares her Christian faith with those who request it.

“I have had an extremely fortunate life. I volunteer to give something back to my community. As a result, I’ve heard many stories. Stories of country men and women, some of whom were leaders in their communities, now facing disability on many levels.

“One of the more shocking parts of working in aged care is the way dementia strikes where it will and leave devastating results for residents and families. However, the staff at RFBI are always courteous, kind and caring.”

Beyond representing St Brigid’s Church, Frances has spent time playing cards with residents regularly and spending time by their bedsides. She fondly remembers a moment when she visited a resident and was moved to say, “You are a beautiful man”. He responded, “You are not a bad sort either”.

“That moment made my day,” shares Frances.

To anyone considering volunteering in an aged care organisation like RFBI, Frances says “Try it!”

“It is so rewarding!”
