Sewing bee helps residents care for their clothes

Sonia Lim 13 Jul 2022

Our amazing sewing volunteers in our RFBI Lake Haven Masonic Village have been putting their skills to good use helping residents to repair their clothing.

We have a group of volunteers that meet monthly to run a special sewing bee for residents to access and benefit from. Residents can bring their clothes that are missing buttons, have seams that need repairing or hems that need adjusting, and have our volunteers carefully tend to them.

Our residents grew up in a time when repairing your items rather than replacing them was a natural part of life. So being able to access a service like this and also keep their clothes looking tidy and feeling comfortable is extremely appreciated by all.

In fact, even our staff have occasionally asked our experienced sewers for help with their clothing as well.

If you have time to spare and would like to support the older members of our aged care communities, we’d love to hear from you. We have opportunities available across our villages in NSW and the ACT. Please contact your nearest RFBI village, call our Head Office on 1800 181 959, or email us at volunteer@rfbi.com.au.
