Sensory garden brings moments of calm
19 Jan 2026Sensory gardens offer so much enjoyment to residents. Moments outdoors surrounded by the scents, experiences and beauty of nature makes us all feel calm and connected.
Our sensory garden in RFBI Tamworth Masonic VIllage is always a popular space for fresh air and wellbeing throughout the day. Thoughtfully designed to encourage relaxation, the space is often filled with residents enjoying morning tea, admiring the flours, touching and smelling the fragrant plants or simply sitting and listening to the gentle sounds around them.
The garden has become a place for reminiscence as well, with many residents sharing stories about gardens they have loved in the past. These conversations often spark memories of family homes and time spent tending to gardens earlier in life, creating opportunities for connection with fellow residents and staff.
Simple sensory experiences – like the sound of wind chimes moving in the breeze or the calming flow of water features – have a powerful impact. For many residents, spending time in the garden reduces anxiety and agitation and supports emotional wellbeing.
