RFBI Dubbo Masonic Village welcomes the Cup15 Oct 2019
Residents, families and staff at RFBI Dubbo Masonic Village were excited to be included as a stop for the 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour (LMCT). Each year, the 18-carat gold Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy visits various destinations to celebrate the heroes and stories intrinsically linked to the Victoria Racing Club’s 158-year old Lexus Melbourne Cup race.
2019 marks 100 years of the iconic three-handled ‘Loving’s Cup’ design being used for the Melbourne Cup. The three-handle Cup design symbolises the relationship between the winning jockey, trainer and owner. Residents were interested to learn how the Cup was made through a video and have Victoria Racing Club (VRC) representative Mick Hurry on hand to answer any questions and share more information about the Tour.
1992 Melbourne Cup winning jockey, Gerg Hall who is currently an ambassador for LMCT, reflected on what it was like on the day he won. Everyone was thrilled to have an opportunity to have photos taken with the Cup. Sandra Spargo, a resident at the Village shared her experience having held other racing trophies says, “I got to hold the 1958 Melbourne Cup and the Cox Plate. This year’s trophy is much heavier than it used to be!”
It was a wonderful afternoon for everyone that came together to celebrate the race that stops the nation.
