Many of our residents and staff enjoy celebrating Chinese New Year. This year we are celebrating the Year of the Tiger – recognised to be a brave and confident animal in Chinese culture. Our villages held celebrations over February.

Our Leisure & Lifestyle team at RFBI Lake Haven Masonic Village threw a special occasion for Chinese New Year. Residents were invited to participate in Chinese New Year themed craft, including colouring large paper dragons and making colourful paper lanterns.

We held a special Chinese New Year themed quiz and our Catering Team prepared delicious mini spring rolls and dim sims for our special Chinese New Year happy hour.

Perhaps the greatest highlight of the day was our armchair travel adventure to China. Residents were issued with passports and boarding passes for the flight to Beijing. Upon arrival, they received Welcome to China stamps on their passports.

To take them into Chinese culture, we watched a travel documentary on China, sipped green tea and enjoyed fortune cookies.

Our residents and staff loved reading their fortunes and seeing some of the beautiful and interesting sights in China.

In fact, the experience was enjoyed so much by everyone that we’re already planning our next armchair adventure. The residents have voted for Canada, Ireland and Nepal for their next adventures.
