It has been a challenging few years for everyone, particularly those working on the frontline to protect older members of our community and for the seniors in our care who have faced lockdown. R U OK? Day is an important day to recognise the signs, trust your gut and ask your friends, family or colleagues ‘Are you ok?’ if you sense something isn’t right.

Caring for the mental health of our team and of other workers in the aged care industry is extremely important to us – it’s what drove us to launch our Mental Moments Show which will be running again next month and we will be sharing more information about our 2021 Mental Moments Show soon.

But we’re also conscious of the challenging times that our seniors have faced – being unable to see their family members and friends face-to-face has been difficult for them. So our villages held special events to recognise and encourage conversation on R U OK? Day. Our RFBI Lake Haven Masonic Village held an afternoon tea in the garden where staff and residents were encourages to talk and share the things that they’ve been struggling with. Everyone in the village also wore R U OK? stickers to remind one another to ask the question and be confident to share our feelings, as well as show support for one another.

It was a good reminder to all that we care not just on R U OK? Day, but every day.
