Home Care, the choices are now in your hands

cornerstone 7 Feb 2017

Anyone who is currently receiving, or has been approved to receive a home care package, will be able to choose any aged care provider to deliver their services from 27 February.

Home Care Packages are government subsidised home care services designed to enable older people to remain living independently in their own home.

Although people have always been able to choose their preferred provider, whether they could receive services from a particular provider has depended on whether that provider had an available licence. However, this will all change from 27 February, when new legislation will take effect moving Home Care Package licenses from providers to the consumer, giving them the option to choose any provider to deliver their care and services.

Funding arrangements will remain the same, and people who are not yet receiving home care services or been approved for a home care package will continue to need an aged care assessment in order to be eligible to receive subsidised home care services.
