RFBI celebrated Harmony Week in March with a range of exciting activities aimed at promoting inclusivity and cultural diversity. Respect and creating a culture where all residents, staff and guests feel safe in themselves and that they belong is extremely important to the way we operate.

Villages, teams and staff have been coming together to celebrate cultural diversity across all RFBI locations.

Our Head Office held a special morning tea for staff to enjoy some time together and recognise that Everyone Belongs, the theme for this year’s event.

In RFBI Armidale Masonic Village, the team made Harmony Week a permanent fixture of the village. The team created a Harmony Wall which symbolises every staff member and resident’s cultural background. The wall features flags and ways to say hello in the different languages traditional to residents and staff. We will continue to add to the wall over the years.

Beyond the new Harmony Wall, the Nepali staff members from RFBI Armidale Masonic Village performed traditional dance for residents in their traditional attire. They spent time speaking to residents about their culture and sharing their experiences and memories with all. We were also privileged to have a local high school student, Jacob, read his newly published book to residents. ‘Cracked as a crab’ is a wonderful story that speaks to Jacob’s experiences with autism and the need to be kind, no matter our differences.

At RFBI Benhome Masonic Village, residents enjoyed a cooking demonstration by staff member Maria, who prepared a traditional Filipino dish. The dish was enjoyed by all and allowed residents to experience a different culture’s cuisine firsthand. In addition to the cooking demonstration, residents learned about the history of Harmony Week and the importance of embracing different cultures.

RFBI is committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity across all our services and villages, and the Harmony Week activities were just one example of how we are achieving this goal. To learn more about our services and commitment to aged care, explore our website.
