Community spirit shines at RFBI Berry Masonic Village’s Open Day and Fundraiser
4 Aug 2025On 1 August, RFBI Berry Masonic Village opened its doors for a special Open Day and Fundraiser. From games and gourmet food to incredible prizes and heartfelt generosity, the event brought together residents, families, staff and our wider community in a true celebration of connection and care.
We are proud to share that together we raised close to $1,500 for our Benevolence and Annuity Scheme, a program rooted in over 145 years of helping those in need. Since RFBI’s establishment in 1880, the organisation has provided more than $15 million in financial assistance, medical equipment, health programs, and research funding to individuals and families facing hardship. This program continues RFBI’s proud legacy of community support, including funding for initiatives such as Rotary’s Men’s Health Education Rural Van, disaster relief efforts, local clubs, and much more.
The day was packed with exciting activities and entertainment for all ages. Visitors tested their luck in our Ring Toss, Go Fishing and Jelly Bean Guessing competitions; all for a good cause. Meanwhile, the Tovertafel demonstration offered a fascinating look at how interactive technology can support cognitive health for people living with dementia.
Our beloved Op Shop was open for business, offering treasures generously donated by residents, families, staff and community members, with all proceeds going back to our village in Berry.
The highlight of the day was our spectacular raffle, featuring incredible prizes generously donated by our community and sponsors. These included:
- a wine tasting experience for 10 people at Silos Wines,
- a two-night stay at Berry Boutique,
- a tasty fruit basket from Mitchells Fruits and
- a beautiful hand-quilted quilt donated by the Berry Quilters.
Our local physiotherapist, Savvy, contributed vouchers for four weeks of unlimited exercise programs, including a seniors’ membership and a membership for two. Additionally, an outdoor storage box from Bunnings, two vintage bikes and more prizes made the raffle truly special. We thank Michelle for coordinating these generous donations from our local community.
Visitors enjoyed a delicious array of food, thanks to the generous support of many suppliers who set up food tables and provided samples throughout the event. These included:
- Sheldon Smith from Groenz (French Maid brand),
- Melinda Taylor from Inghams,
- Jennifer Jensen from Primo,
- Andrew Harrison and Ben from Hakka,
- Andrew Chung from Priestleys,
- Matthew Redman from Pacific West,
- Jared Abrahams and David March from Unilever,
- Rebecca Ridden from Hub Foods,
- Brittany Williamson from Mars Foods,
- Nick Best from Kraft Heinz,
- Marine Sudre from Bakers Maison and
- Anthony Zibara from East Coast Beverages.
Our local IGA was also on site, sharing valuable information about seniors discounts and how to apply.
Our Berry Auxiliary ran a popular cake stall, while our talented catering team offered delicious dumplings for sale. Pulled pork rolls, sausage sizzles with salad and refreshing drinks were available for just $5 and $2 respectively, ensuring everyone could enjoy a tasty treat.
Special thanks go to the CWA Hospital Support Committee for donating beautiful knee rugs and blankets, bringing warmth and comfort to our residents. Our in-house physiotherapist, Savvy, not only provided fitness testing on the day but also generously donated raffle prizes, showing once again their commitment to keeping our community active and engaged.
Thank you to our village team for coordinating the fun and games, and to every resident, staff member, family, and friend who helped make this day such a success. Your time, donations, and support made a real difference.
Events like these are more than just a good time, they are a testament to the strength of our community and the joy we can create when we come together for a cause. Thank you for being part of this unforgettable day!
