Chicken Pet Therapy - RFBI Glen Innes Masonic Village

Chickens may be an unusual pet but at RFBI Glen Innes Masonic Village, these therapy chickens are bringing joy to our residents in the Village. During their visit, they are often seen sitting on resident’s laps getting pats, cuddles and even a little treat.

“Residents are hand feeding these chickens and it is great pet therapy,” says Glen Muggleton, Lifestyle Officer.

Research has revealed that pet therapy can improve general health and wellbeing of older Australian and chickens are known to assist with social and creative activities. At RFBI, pet therapy programs are adopted across all Villages as these programs make big changes to the lives of our residents.
