Celebrating friendship and new beginnings at our retirement community in Cessnock

Moving houses after more than half a century is a momentous milestone, but for Noel and Lynette Findley transitioning into a new community has opened up a beautiful and deeply rewarding new chapter.

The couple, aged 78 and 79, moved into RFBI Cessnock Masonic Retirement Village in December 2025 after spending 56 wonderful years in their East Cessnock family home. While leaving a long-term home can feel overwhelming, Noel and Lynette have embraced village life completely, enjoying the freedom of having less cleaning, no lawn maintenance and a vibrant social calendar. Prior to the move the couple rarely socialised, but they have quickly become central figures in the village family.

Now they are proudly celebrating the rebirth of the buddy system, a heartfelt village program where existing residents volunteer to help newcomers settle in. Noel and Lynette have eagerly stepped into this welcoming role, knowing firsthand how much a friendly face and a helping hand can ease the transition for others.

The program perfectly reflects the culture of benevolence that our Retirement Living team nurtures across the village. It provides the residents with a beautiful sense of ongoing purpose while ensuring that no one ever feels isolated or alone. During a recent chat, Noel and Lynette shared how pleased and emotional they felt to be able to give back to others in this way.

When they aren’t busy welcoming new neighbours the couple pursues their own tailored interests. Noel, who is described as conscientious, sensitive and multi-talented, is actively involved in the local Nulkaba Men’s Shed and loves playing croquet. Lynette, a quiet, loving and sensitive soul, is an avid reader who thoroughly enjoys the armchair exercise classes.
