Australia Day honours for Joyce Watt OAM

cornerstone 3 Apr 2017

We congratulate and celebrate with our very own Joyce Watt OAM following her recognition in this year’s Australia Day honours list. Joyce has been associated with RFBI Hawkins Masonic Village since 1974, and has been volunteering for the last 30 years. Initially employed as a staff member at the village, she was appointed as the Village Caring Officer following her retirement, where she now works tirelessly for the benefit of our residents.

Among her many achievements, she has lobbied for a Seniors Award for the Men’s Shed in 2013, which received recognition at Parliament House. She has been responsible for much of the wonderful catering for RFBI Self Care Residents, providing afternoon tea in the Community Hall for concerts, luncheons and fund raisers, and 3 course dinners for special occasions.

Joyce is the Secretary and Treasurer of the Support Group and is an avid fund raiser. Her efforts have helped raise over $250,000 for special equipment to enhance the lives of our residents. She also operates a genealogical library, researching and printing family histories, and she also teaches computing skills to our residents. And as though that wasn’t enough, Joyce organises the Village Newsletter, personally delivering it to over 200 mail boxes every month!

We are privileged to have Joyce as part of our RFBI family, and we’re proud that her extraordinary achievements have now been recognised in the wider community.
