A native wildlife experience

It was an unusual encounter but residents at RFBI Lakemba Masonic Village were surprised by how friendly some of our native wildlife that came to visit were.

A lovely lady from Australian Wildlife Displays visited the Village recently and brought along a bearded dragon, a possum, a saltwater crocodile and a python. Residents were encouraged to meet the animals and exchange stories they have about encounters they have experienced.

Each resident and staff member reacted differently around the animals, some intrigued, some a little scared but it was wonderful to see some residents overcoming their fear and embraced holding and touching them.

It was truly a special moment for our staff to be able to offer a first time experience with crocodiles, pythons and other animals for some of our residents.

Animals are always welcomed at our Village with families and staff often bringing their fur babies to visit. We also organise special animal activities such as the native wildlife experience, which are facilitated by professional companies, to add another dimension to the Leisure & Lifestyle Program.
