History

Moonbi Masonic Village is based in Kootingal. We also have two smaller villages in Tamworth. Frank Jeffree, the former President of RFBI, opened our first Independent Living site in 1984. John Oxley Court consisted of 20 one and two bedroom independent living units.

In the following year, Tamworth Homes for the Aged amalgamated with NIMAC, which saw our independent living options increased with a further 40 independent living units, across three new sites.

In 1988, due to public demand the Deputy State Manager for the Department of Community Services and Health, Mr Frank Hegerty, opened an additional 12 independent living units at Moonby.

Today in the Tamworth district, we operate 51 retirement living units, across three sites. These are located at Moonby, North Tamworth and East Tamworth.

Activities and Lifestyle

Our residents enjoy an active social calendar, which varies from site to site. However typical activities include regular outings to local pubs, clubs, cafes and gardens for meals and socialising. We also have craft days, poetry readings, music appreciation and a weekly Happy Hour. Residents take part in newspaper readings, as well as bingo, quizzes and BBQ lunches.

Our fashion parades are a very popular event, and are supported by Millers Fashions, who kindly offer clothing for sale on the day at a reduced price. We are also lucky enough to be entertained by guest artists during Country Music Week, and to enjoy special occasion parties for residents and staff.

Our residents also take regular bus outings using our onsite buses.
