Residential Care beds: 34

Robert Alfred Orville Gill built Moonby House in 1895 on 68,720 acres occupied by the Gill family. In 1978, the Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution purchased the house and 54 acres of land. Originally called the Northern Inland Masonic Retirement Centre, in 2001 it was renamed Tamworth Masonic Village. Moonby House is the Administration Headquarters for Tamworth Masonic Village.

Moonby House Nursing Home opened its doors with 49 bedrooms in 1985. Grand Master Professor Roy Woodman L.L.M. officially opened it in the following year. In 2005 we underwent a refurbishment, reducing the capacity to 34 residents, by providing single rooms with shared facilities. The renovations were officially opened by Senator the Honourable Sandy McDonald, Deputy Leader of the Nationals. RFBI operates Moonby House.

Moonby House is a 34-bed, high care nursing home. We offer single rooms with co- joining ensuite bathrooms, fitted with sensor lights. We also have two larger specialised bedrooms for those with extra needs, each of these have their own ensuite bathroom. All our bedrooms have an electric bed, with bed movement sensors and are individually fitted with reverse cycle air conditioning, providing optimal comfort for our residents.

We have a fully landscaped garden, with beautiful rose and sensory section for our residents and their visitors to enjoy. There is a spacious combined lounge and dining room, and sitting rooms located in each wing. A smaller private dining area with kitchenette is also available for residents and their families. We have a fully functional on-site laundry, with clothes labelling service. All our common areas have reverse cycle air-conditioning.

Moonby House catering is all on-site, with main meals served in the large dining room. The menu changes seasonally, and we welcome input from our residents. Visitors are also able to enjoy a meal with residents should they wish, at a minimal charge.

Payment options

As of the 1st July 2014, new residents have greater choice on how to pay for their accommodation costs. These choices include;

  1. Residents can choose to pay for accommodation by a refundable deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum,
  2. A daily payment (DAP), or
  3. A combination of both

A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. As RFBI offers a variety of accommodation options and prices we encourage you and your family to discuss your needs with a financial adviser to ensure that you are receiving the best financial outcome available to you.

Our published Accommodation Payment prices are our maximum rates and will apply for those with adequate financial means.

Residents with limited assets may be treated as “supported” by the Department of Social Services. This means that you will not be required to pay the published Accommodation Payment. If you are not treated as “supported”, but affordability is still a factor, be assured this will not necessarily affect your eligibility for accommodation.

The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) amounts quoted above are current as of today and may change (in line with interest rate adjustments) for entry dates after the 1st July. When there are changes to the interest rate RFBI will update the new DAP’s based on the new quarterly interest rate.
