Lakemba opened in November 1988. In 2007 we underwent an extensive program of refurbishments and extensions, completed in time to celebrate our twentieth anniversary. As part of these renovations, we had: new floor covering for the entire hostel, the replacing of all furniture in each bedroom, and upgrading of each resident’s ensuite bathrooms.
At Lakemba, we provide accommodation for 50 residents, each with their own private room. Our rooms are comfortably equipped, each providing an ensuite bathroom, built in wardrobes, wall units for residents’ personal items, and a phone connection. Every room also has either a private balcony or opens onto the central courtyard.
Revamping of the central courtyard was recently undertaken. This courtyard is a secure area where our residents meet to enjoy fresh air in a peaceful, relaxing environment.
We provide a range of communal spaces, including dining and lounge activity rooms. Further refurbishments took place in 2011, and a second lounge room, library and hairdressing room have been created to add extra areas for our residents’ leisure activities.
Moorefields Masonic Village is an independent living community located at Roselands. We have 24 independent living units, comprised of six one bedroomed units and 18 2-bedroomed units.
All our units are positioned to enable maximum privacy while retaining a community atmosphere, and each unit has its own carport. All are furnished with modern amenities, and main bedrooms have built in wardrobes.
The grounds of the Village are tastefully landscaped and are designed to provide a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere for residents. A lounge room, community hall and library provide good places for residents to relax or to meet as a group.
As of the 1st July 2014, new residents have greater choice on how to pay for their accommodation costs. These choices include;
- Residents can choose to pay for accommodation by a refundable deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum,
- A daily payment (DAP), or
- A combination of both
A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. As RFBI offers a variety of accommodation options and prices we encourage you and your family to discuss your needs with a financial adviser to ensure that you are receiving the best financial outcome available to you.
Our published Accommodation Payment prices are our maximum rates and will apply for those with adequate financial means.
Residents with limited assets may be treated as “supported” by the Department of Social Services. This means that you will not be required to pay the published Accommodation Payment. If you are not treated as “supported”, but affordability is still a factor, be assured this will not necessarily affect your eligibility for accommodation.
The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) amounts quoted above are current as of today and may change (in line with interest rate adjustments) for entry dates after the 1st July. When there are changes to the interest rate RFBI will update the new DAP’s based on the new quarterly interest rate.
Description of common areas to which a person living in this room would have access
RFBI Lakemba Masonic Village has many resident amenities and common areas to ensure that you benefit from your time at our facility, including spacious dining and lounge areas and a number of Small Private Sitting Areas and Outdoor Sitting Areas. We are located in a Town Setting which you can enjoy from the garden and one of the outdoor sitting areas. Other amenities that resident can use include the Hairdressing Salon, Medical Consultation Room, Activities Room, Library and Internal Courtyard.
Description of quality, condition and amenity of room
Our generous sized bedrooms with vinyl flooring come equipped with Built-in Wardrobes, Lounge Chair, Full Electric Bed, Bed Side Table and a Nurse Call System. You can keep cool or warm with the Ceiling Fan, Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning and Block-Out curtains.
All bedrooms look out to the surrounding areas. A TV Antenna Outlet and a Phone Plug are installed for your convenience.
Each room also has an Ensuite which has a Walk in Shower, Toilet, Vanity, Wall Cabinet and Call Button.

Services that we offer you at no additional costs include a mobile library service, physiotherapy and podiatry services (High ACFI residents) bus trips/outings, nutritionally balanced meals prepared in our on-site kitchen, Wi-Fi connection and lots of different activities.

Services that require an additional fee include hairdressing, physiotherapy and podiatry (Low ACFI residents), phone connection and Foxtel connection.

Activities and Lifestyle
At Lakemba Masonic Village, we provide personal care for our residents, 24 hours a day. This is given by trained Aged Care staff.
We strive to make the centre a relaxing and enriching place to be, and therefore offer hairdressing; physiotherapist, podiatrist, pharmacist and other allied health services, as well as a choice of doctors. We also have a team of fully trained catering staff, who provide residents with all their catering needs.
Alongside our dedication to the good health of our residents, we also employ a full time Diversional therapist to coordinate activities. Our program of social, recreational and special interest activities is provided to assist and encourage residents to maintain their social lifestyle and to participate in the life of the larger community.
Our residents choose all our activities programs. Current selections range from a walk in the park followed by a hot drink, to the monthly lunch and show at the club. Another favourite is the weekly sing-a-long, which is followed by afternoon tea, run by our volunteer group. Winding down the week, Friday afternoon happy hour is hugely enjoyed by everyone.
Once a month we hold a resident and family forum, offering the opportunity to voice ideas and to provide feedback on care provision and all programs on offer.
At Moorefields, several clubs and churches are within easy reach of the village. There is a residents’ committee who meet every Monday. This group organises different activities for the village, and we also run a volunteer group for Lakemba Masonic Village.
Lakemba is a cosmopolitan town, very much contributing to the multicultural society of Sydney. Our employees come from different parts of the word, offering our residents a warm environment of cultural learning, which benefits both the residents and the staff themselves.
We are a ten minute walk from Lakemba shopping centre, providing a wide range of shops and other services. We’re also within easy walking distance of a wide range of community services including: banks, pharmacies, the Senior Citizens’ Centre, library, railway station and local buses.
We are fortunate to be serviced by two of Sydney’s major hospitals, being Bankstown and Canterbury.
We are conveniently located for all amenities. Shopping facilities are excellent, with Roselands shopping complex only 1.5 km away. The Village is on a public bus route with busses regularly going to Earlwood, Kogarah and Roselands. Further afield, it is just a short drive into the Sydney CBD or the beachside suburbs of the Sutherland Shire.
