Other Information

Residential Care beds: 43
Retirement Living Units: 41

The Goulburn Masonic Village was started in 1993, and is built on a site originally owned by the Gulson family, who continue to live in the district.

Gulson Lodge Caring Hostel was officially opened in 1996, with the addition to the hostel of Peter Larkin Wing in 1999.

Seven new retirement living villas, and a new laundry were completed in 2006.

The Goulburn Masonic Village is currently comprised of 41 retirement living units and 43 residential care rooms.

Retirement Living Units
The retirement living units feature a lounge/dining room, kitchen, bathroom, toilet and laundry. Built-in wardrobes, light fittings, heating, ceiling fan, security screens and a fold away ironing board are also included. A single, extended garage adjoins each unit. A 24-hour-a-day emergency on-call service is available in all retirement living units, and all units are connected to Vital Call.

Our residents furnish their own unit to suit their individual taste. All retirement living units have lock-up single garages and a small garden area, which residents are encouraged to maintain and improve.

Cleaning of common areas, maintenance of the units and the maintenance of the landscaped grounds is the responsibility of the village staff.

Residential Care
Our Residential Care has 32 rooms for permanent placement and one room allocated for respite care, with a 10-bed secure Dementia Unit. Each room offers an ensuite bathroom, wardrobe and many have a private balcony.

Residential care is provided by personal care assistants, 24 hours a day. The assistants are responsible for help with showering, dressing, grooming, mobility and so on, as well as help with ongoing treatment for health problems, recreational and therapeutic activities. Catering and laundry are both onsite, with main meals served in the large dining room within the hostel. Morning, afternoon tea and supper are also provided.

Visitors and retirement living residents may also enjoy a catered meal with the residents at a minimal charge.

Payment options

As of the 1st July 2014, new residents have greater choice on how to pay for their accommodation costs. These choices include:

  1. Residents can choose to pay for accommodation by a refundable deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum,
  2. A daily payment (DAP), or
  3. A combination of both

A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. As RFBI offers a variety of accommodation options and prices we encourage you and your family to discuss your needs with a financial adviser to ensure that you are receiving the best financial outcome available to you.

Our published Accommodation Payment prices are our maximum rates and will apply for those with adequate financial means.

Residents with limited assets may be treated as “supported” by the Department of Social Services. This means that you will not be required to pay the published Accommodation Payment. If you are not treated as “supported”, but affordability is still a factor, be assured this will not necessarily affect your eligibility for accommodation.

The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) amounts quoted above are current as of today and may change (in line with interest rate adjustments) for entry dates after the 1st July. When there are changes to the interest rate RFBI will update the new DAP’s based on the new quarterly interest rate.

Activities and Lifestyle

Our community hall provides a venue for residents to meet and join activities.

We also provide a 23 seater bus each Tuesday, for our residents to travel into Goulburn for shopping.

There are organised activities for residents from Monday to Friday, with monthly bus outings to Yass, as well as trips to local shopping centres and restaurants. To provide entertainment for the residents, community identities and groups visit the village regularly.

Various religious services are held in the activities room at the residential care village. Residents from both the retirement living units and residential care are invited to attend.

Local Information

The City of Goulburn is 2 hours from Sydney and 1 hour from Canberra. It was Australia’s first inland city; meaning one of its finest features is the architecture of the original buildings and houses.

Goulburn delivers the convenience of city services, together with the pleasure of a country lifestyle. There is a public transport system in the city, including rail links, buses and taxi services. We are also close to Goulburn District Hospital, which provides health care for the region.
