History

The original hostel opened in 1990, and stands on the site of a timber mill called Potter and Greenaway. The local community raised funds to establish the Village, known locally as Glenwood Gardens, and, with a substantial donation from RFBI, a 28-bed hostel was built.

Since 1990, six 2-bedroom villas have been added, as well as 22 new residential care beds. Federal MP for New England, Tony Windsor, officially opened these in 2004. Glenwood Gardens also took over the CWA Mountain Home, relocating the residents to our village. The eight bed dementia unit is named CWA Wing, in recognition of the former hostel.

In 2009, RFBI took over the village from the local community. Since then, a large upgrade to the kitchen and laundry has been completed, as well as installation of a fire sprinkler system, upgrades to the nurse call system and lighting.

Facilities

Glenwood Gardens is a 51-bed facility, offering residential care as well as an 8-bed secure dementia unit.

All our rooms are single, with ensuite shower and toilets. The original building boasts underfloor heating and we have gas ducted heating in the new building All common areas, and individual rooms have ceiling fans.

We also offer a dining lounge, several quiet sitting areas and TV lounges. All our residents’ meals are cooked fresh on site, with seasonal menu changes.

We are a single story structure, and don’t have any stairs, which many residents find a great bonus.

Payment options

As of the 1st July 2014, new residents have greater choice on how to pay for their accommodation costs. These choices include:

  1. Residents can choose to pay for accommodation by a refundable deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum,
  2. A daily payment (DAP), or
  3. A combination of both

A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. As RFBI offers a variety of accommodation options and prices we encourage you and your family to discuss your needs with a financial adviser to ensure that you are receiving the best financial outcome available to you.

Our published Accommodation Payment prices are our maximum rates and will apply for those with adequate financial means.

Residents with limited assets may be treated as “supported” by the Department of Social Services. This means that you will not be required to pay the published Accommodation Payment. If you are not treated as “supported”, but affordability is still a factor, be assured this will not necessarily affect your eligibility for accommodation.

The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) amounts quoted above are current as of today and may change (in line with interest rate adjustments) for entry dates after the 1st July. When there are changes to the interest rate RFBI will update the new DAP’s based on the new quarterly interest rate.
