Residential Care Beds: 62

History

There has been an aged care facility in Concord since 1959, when a group known as “Concord Senior Citizens’ Welfare Association” opened Concord Senior Citizens’ Home. Accommodating 13 people, it ran for 40 years.

With a grant from the Federal Government, and in conjunction with the Royal Freemasons Benevolent Institution, a new 50 bed Residential Care hostel, accommodating a 10 bed dementia unit was opened in late 1998 by His Excellency, the former governor, the Hon Gordon Samuels AC.

In early 2004, a new Special Care Unit was opened, comprising 12 additional rooms, a large kitchen, dining room, lounge, doctor’s room, hairdresser’s room, manager’s office and boardroom.

Facilities

The RFBI Concord Community Hostel accommodates 62 residents, with a 40-bed Residential Care beds and 22-bed Residential Care secure dementia unit.

Each wing consists of a common lounge area with kitchenette, ceiling fans and air conditioning. We have outdoor walking paths with garden beds, and a large common courtyard.

Our Residential Care Village consists of four cottages, housing 10 single ensuite bedrooms with spacious wardrobes, ceiling fans and air conditioning units. Our residents are encouraged to bring in their personal belongings to make them feel at home. Each room has a computerised monitoring system tailored to the individual needs of the resident.

Our secure dementia unit consist of 22 single ensuite bedrooms with spacious wardrobes, sensor lighting and ceiling fans. Each room has a computerised dementia monitoring system, tailored to the individual needs of the resident. Meals are cooked on site in the main kitchen and served from the kitchen. The secure dementia unit also has a common lounge and dining area, which is open and spacious, with ducted air conditioning. There is also a quiet area for our residents and their visiting families, as well as a covered outdoor courtyard.

Payment options

As of the 1st July 2014, new residents have greater choice on how to pay for their accommodation costs. These choices include;

  1. Residents can choose to pay for accommodation by a refundable deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum,
  2. A daily payment (DAP), or
  3. A combination of both

A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. As RFBI offers a variety of accommodation options and prices we encourage you and your family to discuss your needs with a financial adviser to ensure that you are receiving the best financial outcome available to you.

Our published Accommodation Payment prices are our maximum rates and will apply for those with adequate financial means.

Residents with limited assets may be treated as “supported” by the Department of Social Services. This means that you will not be required to pay the published Accommodation Payment. If you are not treated as “supported”, but affordability is still a factor, be assured this will not necessarily affect your eligibility for accommodation.

The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) amounts quoted above are current as of today and may change (in line with interest rate adjustments) for entry dates after the 1st July. When there are changes to the interest rate RFBI will update the new DAP’s based on the new quarterly interest rate.
