History

On site at the Canberra Masonic Village, we have two Retirement Living Villages, Holt and Pearce; and Kalparrin, our Residential Care home.

The word Kalparrin means, to lend a helping hand. We take this literally and strive to provide quality aging in place services to all the residents within our residential care. The Grand Master of the United Lodge of NSW, Hon R.L.H Johnson, opened Kalparrin Hostel on 1st October 1989. Due to public demand, a further four beds were added in 2003.

Established in 1976, Pearce Retirement Living Village was constructed in nine sections, with four units in each.

Holt Retirement Village was built in three stages, the first in 1987, with 17 units. Due to public demand, between 1987 and 1992 a further 31 units were added.

Facilities

Kalparrin Residential Care
Located in a charming landscaped environment, we are next to the retirement living villas. We offer 53 comfortable and relaxing single rooms, with ensuite, air conditioning and heating. Most rooms have access to our landscaped gardens. Kalparrin also offers a sitting room in each wing, with tea and coffee making facilities. We cater for our residents onsite, with main meals served in the dining room.

Holt Retirement Living
The retirement living units offer two bedrooms, planned to accommodate married couples, and to retain independence and dignity for the single person living alone. The units are approximately 78 m2. Each is fully self-contained, with a separate laundry, bathroom and toilet, kitchen with spacious preparation area and ample storage, reverse cycle split-system air-conditioning units, carpets, double curtains tracks, light fittings, security screen doors and lockup storage space. Careful planning has provided all rooms in the unit with sun control, efficient ventilation and ideal orientation.

Pearce Retirement Living
Pearce Masonic Retirement Village consists of of 32 single and four double bedroom units. Each unit offers the bedrooms, a dining and living area with an open plan kitchen, and is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens.

The opportunity to reside in the Pearce Masonic Retirement Village is limited to those with aged care pensions with low income. Rental is based upon 22.5% of the person’s income.

Payment options

As of the 1st July 2014, new residents have greater choice on how to pay for their accommodation costs. These choices include:

  1. Residents can choose to pay for accommodation by a refundable deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum,
  2. A daily payment (DAP), or
  3. A combination of both

A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. As RFBI offers a variety of accommodation options and prices we encourage you and your family to discuss your needs with a financial adviser to ensure that you are receiving the best financial outcome available to you.

Our published Accommodation Payment prices are our maximum rates and will apply for those with adequate financial means.

Residents with limited assets may be treated as “supported” by the Department of Social Services. This means that you will not be required to pay the published Accommodation Payment. If you are not treated as “supported”, but affordability is still a factor, be assured this will not necessarily affect your eligibility for accommodation.

The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) amounts quoted above are current as of today and may change (in line with interest rate adjustments) for entry dates after the 1st July. When there are changes to the interest rate RFBI will update the new DAP’s based on the new quarterly interest rate.
