History

Bellorana is a controlled entity of the RFBI. Since the first Residential Care hostel opened in 1975, we have maintained steady growth due to public demand for our excellent services.

Sir Gough Whitlam opened the first hostel at Watson Street in 1975, where there were 31 beds. Continuing in the residential care tradition, the Bellorana Nursing Home was opened in 1990 to provide 30 high care beds.

A rise in demand for Independent Living as a form of aged care saw Bellorana establish Oakman Gardens in 1987, with 16 Independent Living units.

Bellorana Community Aged Care Packages commenced in 2001, and 2002 saw additional expansion, with seven new places at the Watson Street Hostel, and a further 24 hostel beds at the Joyce Jarrett Hostel, located on the same street.

Facilities

All our Residential Care rooms have an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning and access to beautiful gardens, the communal dining and lounge room and activities rooms.

Our Nursing Home offers a mix of single and double rooms, with shared bathrooms, wide verandahs, gardens, communal dining and lounge room.

Our Independent Living units at Oakman Gardens are all two bedroom, and are surrounded by beautiful gardens. They are close to the communal BBQ area for all residents.

All  Bellorana sites are close to Bellingen, allowing access to shops, cafes, doctors and transport.

Internet Cafe – with volunteer to teach residents.

Payment options

As of the 1st July 2014, new residents have greater choice on how to pay for their accommodation costs. These choices include;

  1. Residents can choose to pay for accommodation by a refundable deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum,
  2. A daily payment (DAP), or
  3. A combination of both

A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. As RFBI offers a variety of accommodation options and prices we encourage you and your family to discuss your needs with a financial adviser to ensure that you are receiving the best financial outcome available to you.

Our published Accommodation Payment prices are our maximum rates and will apply for those with adequate financial means.

Residents with limited assets may be treated as “supported” by the Department of Social Services. This means that you will not be required to pay the published Accommodation Payment. If you are not treated as “supported”, but affordability is still a factor, be assured this will not necessarily affect your eligibility for accommodation.

The Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) amounts quoted above are current as of today and may change (in line with interest rate adjustments) for entry dates after the 1st July. When there are changes to the interest rate RFBI will update the new DAP’s based on the new quarterly interest rate.
